Reception will be run on a child initiated basis where we will be following the children's interests at all times and working with where they are to move them forward and ensure they meet their Early Learning Goals. They will be provided with exciting and varied oportunities both inside and outside that will spark their imaginations, creativity and engagement. Underpinning all our teaching in the Early Years will be the Characteristics of effective Learning ("Playing and Exploring", "Creating and Thinking Critically" and "Active Learning") which show us "how" your child learns and what kind of learner they are.

"Teaching should not be taken to imply a "top down" or formal way of working. It is a broad term which covers the many different ways in which adults help young children learn. It includes their interactions with children during planned and child-initiated play and activies: communicating and modelling language, showing, explaining, demonstrating, exploring ideas, encouraging, questioning, recalling, providing a narrative for what they are doing, facilitating and setting challenges."
